Fishing vessels putting to sea, Mevagissey, Cornwall. 1909

The Mevagissey fishing fleet putting to sea at high tide. Long oars are being used to manoeuvre the vessels out of the sheltered harbour to enable their sails to catch the wind. In the left middle ground of the picture are two young men in a rowing boat. One waves to the passing fishing vessel as the other sculls the boat with an oar at the stern. The lighthouse on Victoria Pier is just discernible above the sails in the background. Two fishing vessel sails can be seen above North Pier as they move into St Austell Bay.
