Crowd at the Preaching Pit, with tea laid out. Women and children can be seen in summer dress. The preaching pit. originally an old stone quarry on the edge of the village, was opened in 1852. Following the East Wheal Rose mining disaster of 1846, it was converted into a preaching pit as a memorial to those who died. Preaching pits were open-air arenas for Methodist preachers. 10x8 Print in an MDF Wooden Frame with 180 gsm Satin Finish Paper. Glazed using shatter proof thin plexi glass. Frame thickness is 1 inch and depth 0.75 inch. Fluted cardboard backing held with clips. Supplied ready to hang with sawtooth hanger and rubber bumpers. Spot clean with a damp cloth. Packaged foam wrapped in a card.
