Opening ceremony of the Royal Cornwall Museum, River Street, Truro, Cornwall. 11th June 1919

Group photograph, taken on the balcony, at the opening ceremony of the museum on 11th June 1919. John Charles Williams of Caerhays, President of the Royal Institution of Cornwall and Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall, sits in the presidential chair. The Prince of Wales, Duke of Cornwall (later to become King Edward VIII), sits to the left of centre and is wearing the uniform of Commander in Chief, The Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry. The Mayor of Truro, thought to be W.A. Phillips, sits to the right. Prior to this date, the collections of the Royal Institution of Cornwall had been housed in part of the former home of the Vivian family in Union Place, Truro. Photographer: Opie Ltd
