The hanging wall (top left) of the lode above the 406 fathoms level. The wall was very weak and had to be supported by a forest of timbers. It proved 'very troublesome' and 'occasioned two or three large "runs" and, unfortunately, some fatal accidents were caused by falls of the hanging wall'.
