This medal was awarded to Cornet G.I. Call who served with the 27th Light Dragoons. It was awarded with the clasps ALLIGHUR (4th September 1803), BATTLE of DELHI (11th September 1803), LASWARREE (1st November 1803) and CAPTURE OF DEIG (11th-23rd December 1804). It is one of 17 campaign medals awarded to members of the Call family, now in the museum collection. The medals date from the Peninsular War (1807-1814) to the Great War (1914-1918). The medal was approved on 21st March 1851 as a retrospective award by the Honourable East India Company to survivors of various actions during the period 1799-1826. Designed by William Wyon, the obverse of the circular silver medal bears the head of Queen Victoria with the inscription VICTORIA REGINA. The reverse depicts a winged Victory holding a laurel branch and wreath with the inscription THE ARMY OF INDIA 1799-1826. The rim is inscribed with the recipients name, rank and regiment.
