Gold Electrotype of the Juxon Medal, England
Gold electrotype copy of the Juxon medal (a gold pattern five-unite or five pound coin) by Thomas Rawlins (c.1620-1670) showing King Charles I (reigned 1625-1649) with a very elegant hairstyle and beard. The original medal, now in the British Museum, is said to have been given to Archbishop William Juxon (1582-1663) by Charles I when the latter was on the scaffold, just before his execution. The obverse features the bust of Charles I, facing left. The reverse bears the Royal coat of arms. Royal portraits have been used on English coins for over 1000 years
