Newquay Old Cornwall Society / Federation of Old Cornwall Societies dinner, Newquay, Cornwall. 1978 or possibly 1977

Lined up on the dance floor from left to right: possibly Mr and Mrs Spencer Howlett (President of the Federation of Old Cornwall Societies); Mr Charles Woolf the photographer and President of Newquay Old Cornwall Society in 1977, he is thought to be standing with his wife Phyllis (nee Fulford), possibly Mr and Mrs Stuart Beard (Chairman of the Society); Jessica Mann (1937-2018), novelist and broadcaster, also known by her married name Jessica Thomas; Charles Thomas (1928-2016), archaeologist, historian and Director of the Institute of Cornish Studies, Camborne; an unidentified couple. The photograph was taken on the occasion of a society dinner. This may have been the annual dinner in 1978 or a dinner held following the Annual General Meeting in April 1978. Although the negatives are dated 1978, it has been suggested that the occasion may have been the official opening of the Gallery of Old Cornwall on 6th April 1977.
