Polpeor Cove, The Lizard, Landewednack, Cornwall. 1899
A view of Polpeor Cove with the lifeboat station and lighthouse above. Built in 1885, this was the second lifeboat station to be built in Polpeor Cove. The first station was opened in 1859 following the wreck of the SS Czar on 22nd January 1859 when some of her crew were rescued by local boatmen. The third station, with an integrated slipway which enabled boats to be launched directly into the sea, was built in 1914. In 1961, a new and larger lifeboat station at Kilcobben Cove replaced the third and final station located at Polpeor Cove. Photographer: John Charles Burrow
