Carnival Mayor Kidnap, Lostwithiel, Cornwall. July 1993
Lostwithiel Mayor, Warren Nicholls, was given special protection when he visited fete day on King George V playing fields, after rumours of a kidnap circulated. It was to no avail as 30 Brownies, Guides and Badgers overpowered his bodyguards and took the mayor up the adjacent fire stations training tower. He was eventually released by fire crew on a cherry picker. Pictured are Warren Nicholls, Mayor, with Vic May, Fire Station Officer (centre) and a firefighter, after the rescue by cherry picker.
