First Honoured Burgess, Lostwithiel, Cornwall. June 1984
Local businessman Rex Stephens became the first Honoured Burgess of Lostwithiel and received the civic title from Mayor Gwen Powell-Jones. The Honoured Burgess title replaces Freeman of the Borough. He was one of the firmest believers in a community centre for the town, and received his award in the recently completed centre. A keen sportsman, he was also vice-president of Somerset Cricket Club and of Plymouth Argyle. Photographer: Jonathan Barker
