The first can recycling bank in Lostwithiel is opened by the Mayor Dennis Hutchings, along with Richard Bower MBE and Marian Chanter, environmentalist, with her daughter, Emily. Mr Bower, who lives in Lostwithiel, was Cornwall Councils Recycling Officer for many years and was awarded National Recycling Officer of the Year Award in 2001, a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006 and an MBE in 2007. Later he and his wife Lesley started a business producing jute and paper bags commercially. Photographer: Jonathan Barker
