Silver coins, Lostwithiel, Cornwall. May 1989
The commemorative coin struck to celebrate Lostwithiel 800; the 800 years since the granting of the town charter. It is the size of the silver penny in circulation in 1189 and was designed by Phil Treleaven. One side has the towns arms of a castle with a moat and two fishes, and the other contains a cross with the circumscription 1189 to 1989. The Queen was presented with a pair of the coins when she visited in 1989. Photographer: Jonathan Barker
