Fishing vessels putting to sea, Mevagissey, Cornwall. 1909
The Mevagissey fishing fleet putting to sea at high tide. Long oars are being used to manoeuvre the vessels out of the sheltered harbour to enable their sails to catch the wind. Vessels 145FY and FY60 are identifiable. The light house on Victoria Pier is in the middle ground on the right of the picture. A group of men stand watching the fleet on the end of North Pier, left of centre of the picture. Photographer: Herbert Hughes
