Sir Robert Harveys bungalow at Trenowth (near Grampound Road) in the parish of Probus, Cornwall. 17th June 1904
By 1996 the bungalow had been much altered into two cottages and the cottage on the right named Bat Lodge. Cornishman, Robert Harvey (1847-1930) was a prominent producer in the nitrate industry of the late 1800s, making his fortune in Bolivia, Peru and Chile before returning to Cornwall in 1885. On his return, he purchased Trenowth Estate and invested in the Cornish tourism industry by going into partnership with architect Silvanus Trevail, George Hicks and John Jose to form the Cornish Hotels Company. He served as High Sheriff in both Devon and Cornwall towards the turn of the century and was knighted in 1901. He also served as President of the Royal Institution of Cornwall between 1901-1903.
