Pentewan harbour and village, St Austell, Cornwall. Late 1800s
A view of part of the harbour and the village main street. The schooner James Postlethwaite lies alongside in the harbour. A group of women and children stand outside of R.W. Stephens, Ship Chandler, shop looking towards the camera, as do other people along the street. Pentewan harbour was linked, by a narrow gauge railway, to St Austell where china clay was loaded and transported to Pentewan for shipping to Europe. The photograph is probably taken from near the old Coast Guard station above the harbour entrance. Photographer: Unknown
