Coast south of Penally Point, St Juliot, near Boscastle, Cornwall. 1902
Willapark Lookout can be seen towards the top right hand side of the photograph. The lookout was built in the early 1800s as a summer house by the local landowner Thomas Rickard Avery. It was later used by the Board of Trade as a lookout to help prevent smuggling and, up until the 1970s, as a coastguard lookout. It was then maintained as a folly under National Trust ownership until 2002 when it was leased to Boscastle National Coastwatch Institution. Photographer: Herbert Hughes
