Percuil ferry landing, Gerrans, Cornwall. 1901
A view looking up stream on Percuil (Porthcuel) River, of the ferry landing at Percuil (Porthcuel). In an age of horse drawn vehicles, this ferry landing would have given the people of Gerrans a faster and easier access to St Mawes, where another ferry could take them to Falmouth. The alternative would have meant a long road journey. The carvel built vessel in the middle of the picture has a funnel and steam engine which is covered by a tarpaulin. A number of people seem to be waiting for a ferry. In the background a four wheeled break and two wheeled trap type carriages stand awaiting their passengers. Photographer: Herbert Hughes
